Biblical stories of eighteen New Testament women who Jesus encouraged, empowered, and loved.

When a Woman meets Jesus, BookHow could a man who had no wife, no children, no home, no job, no money, and wandered the hills of Judea with twelve men relate to women of his time, much less women in the 21st century?

That's the question that led author, Dorothy Valcárcel, to search for biblical women whose lives intersected with Jesus. As she explored the lives of every woman Jesus met, she discovered that they faced many of the same challenges women encounter today.

Devotional Week 38 Friday

“O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You. I will praise Your name, for You have done wonderful things, even purposes planned of old and fulfilled in faithfulness and truth.”

Isaiah 25: 1

Amplified Bible

When I feel I can’t possibly make it

When I feel deluged with problems

When I feel helpless

Against the strange twistings of life

When I feel there is no way out

The FACT is:

The greater the strategy of the enemy

The greater the assurance of victory.

The FACT is:

The worst may seem to happen

But the best is on the way.

God, hold me to the FACTS.”

Today’s Study Text:

“For he (Elisha) would recover him (Naaman) of leprosy.”

“Power In The Promises”

“The carrying out of God’s promises is as certain as if already in the past tense.”

Author Unknown

If I had been the young lass before my mistress, would I have shown the same ability to say with surety, “My master will be healed?”

What can I learn about the faithfulness of God from the story of the young girl in Naaman’s home?

“God’s promises are like the stars; the darker the night the brighter they shine.”

David Nicholas

“My own weakness makes me shrink, but God’s promise makes me brave.”

C. H. Spurgeon

There’s one word I think I would use to describe the Israelite girl grabbed by Syrian warriors and taken to work as a slave in the home of Naaman. It is the word – BRAVE! Often, when we hear the word “brave” in relationship to the Bible, our thoughts turn to Daniel, who was tossed down in a lion’s den; or to the three Hebrew men who were thrown into a fiery furnace; or how about the shepherd boy David who went up against a giant named Goliath of Gath.

But for all God’s daughters around the world, there are plenty of Biblical heroines who stood strong for God amidst rebellion and idolatry.

The “little lass,” as we have come to know her, can easily be at the head of the class. In the face of fear and affliction – along with great sorrow and loneliness, this witness for the God of heaven and earth, didn’t let the possibility of ridicule hinder her from going to Naaman’s wife and telling her that if only her husband could be in the presence of the “man of God,” Elisha, she was certain he would be healed.

It is the confidence and indeed the bravery of this young woman that caught my attention as I read our study text for today. Talk about someone who believed God meant what He said. Talk about someone who trusted that no situation was too broken for God to repair. Talk about an individual who, even though very young, understood that God is present and active in this world, it is the Israelite girl who stands tall.

Without hesitation, this precious child affirmed that Naaman would be healed. That’s bravery! That’s trust! And as F. B. Meyer states, this is a faith in God that puts “your hand on all spiritual blessings in Christ and says, ‘Mine’.”

I ask you today, is this the kind of faith that you and I would exhibit in the face of challenges that could easily overwhelm us?

Several days ago on the news, I again heard a report about all the financial problems which developed several years ago and how the consequences of this upheaval are still being felt right now. It’s enough to swamp us. But just today, I was reminded by R.C.H.Lenski, in words written some time ago but sounding as if they were penned yesterday since they are appropriate to the world we attempt to navigate in each day: “God’s promises are better than any bond or note on any bank, financial institution, or most stable government, for all these may have to repudiate their bond; God never does so.” Like I said, these words are so fitting to the situations so many find themselves in today.

How’s that for giving us confidence in our Father’s word? The great hymn-writer, Isaac Watts wrote about God’s promises in this way:

“Engraved as in eternal brass,

The mighty promise shines;

Nor can the powers of darkness erase

Those everlasting lines.”

Today, let us grab onto the promises and word of our Father for He will never let us down. We are reminded of this fact by Pastor C. H. Spurgeon who stated that: “If you appropriate a promise, it will not be pilfering: you may take it boldly and say, ‘This is mine.’”

“Have faith in God, my heart,

Trust and be unafraid;

God will fulfill in every part

Each promise He has made.”

Bryn Austin Rees

God’s Promises for Times of Trouble

1 Peter 5: 7, Amplified

I’m Afraid

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear, but He has given us a spirit of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind.”

II Timothy 1: 7, Amplified

I’m Not Able

“God can pour on the blessings in astonishing ways so that you’re ready for anything and everything, more than just ready to do what needs to be done.

I’m Too Tired
